IDB President and Consul of Uzbekistan in Jeddah Review Cooperation

Dr. Bandar Hajjar, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and Mr. Shamsuddin Sirajuddin, Consul of Uzbekistan in Jeddah, have reviewed cooperation prospects between the IDB and Uzbekistan to further economic and social development in Uzbekistan. The meeting also discussed the possibility of holding an exhibition of Uzbek products at the IDB headquarters in Jeddah to familiarize the IDB Group staff, investors and businesspersons with Uzbek products. The IDB President promised to study
the idea, and stressed IDB’s keenness to support all activities that further economic and commercial development in Uzbekistan.

The meeting also discussed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the IDB and the Government of Uzbekistan on May 2017 on establishment of Al-Imam Al-Bukhari International Research Center. In this regard, the President stated that he had formed a technical committee to effect the MoU with the Government of Uzbekistan.

It is noteworthy that the volume of IDB operations in Uzbekistan amounts to US $ 2015 million for 42 operations that include 5 technical assistance projects at a cost of US $ 1.1 million, 21 projects have been completed, and another 21 totaling US $ 1.5 billion and under implementation. The last project approved in favor of Uzbekistan was in March 2017 to complete the second phase of the modern rural housing project with a total amount of US $ 300 million. The project implementation period is
2017-2019.
