IsDB-ITFC Scholarship Program in International Trade

IE University in alliance with the International Trade Centre (ITC), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) have designed an innovative Executive Master in International Trade.

In this pioneering program, mid-career and senior professionals explore the forces that are reshaping trade, internationalization and globalization. In particular, students will gain cutting-edge insights into trade policy, trade-related standards and regulation, value chains, risk management, business opportunity, trade in services, international contracts and dispute resolution, operations management, the Agenda 2030 and e-commerce, amongst other pertinent subjects, in order to create innovative solutions to tackle the world’s most complex challenges in the trade field.

Scope and Field of Study

This program is unique in bringing together insights from policymakers, regulators and business leaders to stimulate fruitful discussions from different perspectives.

In order to respond to challenges faced by trade leadership today, the learning framework of the Executive Master in International Trade builds upon the concept of the three C’s derived from the ICC: Compete, Connect and Change.

Compete highlights the importance of competitiveness in establishing a successful internationalization strategy. In this portion of the program, students will be exposed to the core of international trade policy. It addresses the standards and regulations that companies must navigate, and enables students to formulate strategies for risk assessment, management and securing new business opportunities. Subjects include:

  • International Trade Policy
  • Standards and Regulation
  • Trade and Investment Finance
  • Risk Management and Business Opportunity

Connect will introduce students to internationalization as not only a phenomenon, but a cohesive strategy for avoiding isolation. Connecting requires flexibility and resilience, and students will learn how to apply these concepts to business strategies throughout the value chain. They will acquire the skills to become leaders within their business areas, forming part of a wider cross-border ecosystem where cultural awareness is not just important, but vital. Subjects include:

  • New Frontiers in Global Political Economy
  • Multicultural Negotiations
  • Value Chain and Operations Management
  • High-Impact Writing and Presentation

Change focuses on the dynamic ecosystem of international trade. Successful firms operating on the local, regional or even global level are constantly evolving. This change is powered in part by the growing importance of e-commerce and international trade in the services industry, as well as the global impetus for companies to adopt sustainable and inclusive practices. In addition, this final module offers practical insights for daily transactions, exploring contractual issues and dispute resolution.

Subjects include:

  • International Trade in Services
  • Trade for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2030
  • Contracts and Dispute Resolution
  • E-Commerce, Digitalization and Trade Innovation
