IsDB Commences Implementation of Issyk Kul Ring Road Reconstruction Project

Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, 16 November 2021 - A startup workshop was conducted on 15-16 November in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to officially start the implementation of Issyk Kul Ring Road Reconstruction Project.

The Issyk Kul Ring Road Reconstruction Project aims to improve the efficiency of the road transport infrastructure through upgrading of 80 km of 2 lane road to 4 lanes, which will facilitate trade as well as boost economic activities in Issyk Kul region. The new road will also help attract more visitors and tourists to the Kyrgyz Republic from neighboring countries for visiting the Issyk Kul Lake.

The startup workshop was inaugurated with the opening speech of H.E. Mr. Erkinbek Osoev, the Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan. In his speech, Mr. Osoev highlighted the importance of the project for the development of the Issyk Kul region and underscored the continuous contribution of the IsDB to the country`s transport sector.

During the 2-day intensive workshop, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) specialists delivered several presentations on the Bank`s project cycle, procurement and disbursement rules and procedures while elaborating on the project implementation arrangements with dedicated Q&A sessions. The workshop also provided opportunity for the professionals working in the Project Implementation Units of other IsDB financed projects to participate and familiarize with the up-to-date changes in the Bank guidelines and procedures.
