IDB Provides US$ 4.7 Million Towards Relief for Syrian Refugees in Neighboring Countries

26.12.2013, Jeddah, KSA – Expressing profound sympathy with the Syrian people over their plight since March 2011, the Board of Executive Directors of IDB at its meeting that ended this week, allocated an amount of US$ 2 million to be used for providing relief and shelter to the Syrian refugees.
In a similar decision earlier, the IDB had provided US$ 2 million funding inclusive of US$ 700,000 for education and US$ 1.3 million for health services to Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. Also, last year, the Bank delivered US$ 700,000 worth of medicine and medical equipment to the refugees in Jordan distributed in coordination with internationally recognized NGOs and voluntary organizations such as the Jordanian Red Crescent, the Arab Doctors Union, etc. Thus, IDB relief assistance
to Syrian refugees amounts so far to US$ 4.7 million.
