Islamic solidarity fund for Development (ISFD)

The Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD), the Islamic Development Bank’s Poverty Alleviation Arm, was established in 2007 as a special fund within the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The objectives of the Fund are to (i) fight poverty and promote pro-poor economic growth in member countries, (ii) provide financial support to enhance the productive capacity and sustainable means of income generation for the least privileged, and (iii) advance human development, especially reducing illiteracy and eradicating diseases/epidemics.

ISFD Vision: Reduced poverty in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries.

ISFD Mission: To lead innovative poverty reduction programs by developing smart partnerships with IsDB Group, donors, and main stakeholders. The Fund is committed to human capital development (including education and health), economic empowerment of women and youth as well as community development in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries especially those least developed.

Mandate: The main mandate of the ISFD is Reducing Poverty in OIC Member Countries.

Focus Area:

  • As the poverty alleviation arm of the IsDB Group, ISFD focuses on contributing to the enhancement of the least privileged communities in the least developed member countries.
  • The Fund’s Priority Areas include Human capital development (education, health, water, and sanitation) and Economic Empowerment (especially for MSMEs, Women, and Youth in strategic sectors such as Agricultural and rural development)
  • It contributes to the various programs and projects implemented by IsDB or by an entity of the Group and targets the development of the member countries in the Human capital development and economic empowerment areas.

Main Functions of ISFD:

  • Fight poverty and promote pro-poor economic growth in member countries.
  • Provide financial support to enhance the productive capacity and sustainable means of income generation for the poor.
  • Advance human development, especially reducing illiteracy and eradicating diseases/epidemics.
