Measuring Performance and Enablers for Net-zero Transitions Worldwide – The 2022 Circular Carbon Economy Index launch

11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Egypt Time)

Time & Date of Event

11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, 11th of November 2022

Event Overview

Despite significantly higher ambition on medium and long-term emissions pledges by countries worldwide, a wide gap remains between targets and implementation. Reaching the goals of the Paris Agreement will require unprecedented energy transitions worldwide.

This side event demonstrates how composite indicators, commonly known as indices, can be utilized as tools to support policymaking on the road to net-zero emissions. It marks the launch of the 2022 edition of the Circular Carbon Economy Index, which measures 64 countries’ current performance and their transition potential on the road to carbon and greenhouse gas emissions circularity.

The circular carbon economy (CCE) concept represents an approach to net-zero emissions that integrates all possible technologies and solutions that help ‘reduce, recycle, reuse and remove’ carbon and other greenhouse gases and prevent them from entering the atmosphere. It also recognizes diversity among countries and that pathways that take a holistic, system-wide approach, are cost-effective and adapt to each country’s national circumstances and strengths are the most likely ones to get implemented. The CCE Index takes these goals as a starting point as it applies the CCE concept to countries worldwide.

Event Outcomes

The session seeks to promote the CCE Index as a tool for data-driven policymaking in support of ambitious net-zero transitions among stakeholders worldwide and to disseminate the results of the 2022 CCE Index.
