IsDB and IDB Reaffirm Commitment to Deepening Strategic Partnership

Vienna, Austria, 22 June 2026 – H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, met with Mr. Ilan Goldfajn, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), on the sidelines of the Arab Coordination Group (ACG) Heads of Institutions Meeting in Vienna.

The meeting reflected the growing momentum in the partnership between the IsDB and the IDB following the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which sets the stage for closer cooperation and stronger development impact across member countries.

Both leaders welcomed the MoU as an important step forward in advancing South–South and Triangular Cooperation. The agreement provides a practical framework for expanding joint operations and knowledge exchange, including a shared ambition to mobilize at least US$1 billion in co-financing for projects in Guyana and Suriname over the next five years.

During the meeting, Dr. Al Jasser highlighted the importance of translating the agreement into tangible results by maintaining close coordination between the technical teams of both institutions. He encouraged continued collaboration to identify new opportunities for joint financing and investment, particularly in areas that can drive sustainable growth and improve livelihoods.

The discussion also underscored the value of sharing knowledge, expertise, and development experience to address common challenges and support the priorities of member countries.  The two sides further explored opportunities to promote investment and trade through support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while emphasizing the importance of identifying and advancing regional integration projects that can strengthen connectivity, foster economic cooperation, and generate sustainable development impact across regions.
