IsDB this week provides US$ 444.5 million to nine member countries to fight the coronavirus as part of its US$ 2.3 billion commitment

Dr. Bandar Hajjar, President of IsDB Group continued his virtual meetings with the Governors of the Bank to discuss the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in their countries. During these meetings Dr. Hajjar assessed their readiness to tackle the health crisis and economic repercussions of the epidemic, especially the expected impact on small and medium enterprises.

Dr. Hajjar held virtual meetings with 9 Governors and announced various financial packages ranging from US$ 15 million to US$ 250 million, to support each Member Country in their efforts to tackle the Covid-19 crisis. 

The Governors and announcements that occurred from each virtual meeting are as followed:

  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Mr. Abdoulaye BIO TCHANE, Senior Minister in-charge of Planning and Development, Benin and it was announced a provision of US$ 20 million to help the Republic of Benin overcome the crisis.
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Dr. Berat Albayrak, the Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance and it was announced a financial package of US$ 250 million to the Republic of Turkey.
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Aristide Gomes, Minister of Economy and Finance, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and it was announced a support package amounting to US$ 15 million for the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. 
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Matia KASAIJA, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda and it was announced a provision of US$ 20.2 million to Uganda.
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Dr. Boubou CISSE Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mali and it was announced a financial package US $ 22.5 million to Mali. 
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Mrs Kaba Nialé, Minister of Planning and Development, Cote d'Ivoire, and it was announced an assistance package to the country amounting to US$ 46.2 million. 
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of Finance, the Republic of Maldives, and it was announced a provision of US$ 25.6 million.
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Jacob Jusu Saffa. Minister of Finance, Sierra Leone and it was announced a provision of support package amounting to US$ 25 million.
  • A virtual meeting with H.E. Mr Issa Doubragne, Minister of Economy and Development Planning, Chad, and it was announced a provision of US$ 20 million to Chad.
