Turkmenistan President received IDB President

The President of Turkmenistan H.E. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, received at the Presidential Palace in Ashgabat on Monday morning 1.06.2009 the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, H.E. Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali.
At the outset, President Berdimuhamedov expressed his country’s welcome that the 34th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank and other related activities are being held in the historic city of Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan. He lauded the important role of the Islamic Development Bank Group in supporting development plans and efforts in IDB member countries, stressing at the same time that the Turkmenistan looks forward to strengthening fruitful cooperation with the IDB Group.
For his part, the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, H.E. Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, on behalf of all participants in the Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors and other related activities, expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to the President, Government and people of Turkmenistan for hosting the 34th Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors. He praised the existing close cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IDB Group. Furthermore, he expressed thanks and appreciation for the excellent arrangements made by all Turkmenistan government agencies concerned to provide all that is required to ensure the success of the Annual Meeting and other related activities. He expressed the IDB’s desire to strengthen its fruitful cooperation with Turkmenistan as well as intra-trade among Member States of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
Turkmenistan became a member of the Islamic Development Bank in November 1994. So far the total financing approved for Turkmenistan by the Islamic Development Bank amounts to US$90 million covering development projects financing in the health, agricultural and communications sectors, in addition to roads and social services.
