US$ 251.6 million alocated by the Islamic Development Bank for Relief in Pakistan

Jeddah - 11 Feb, 2007

The President of the Islamic Development, Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, has stated that the IDB Board of Executive Directors has allocated 251.6 million US dollars as a contribution to the ongoing international relief efforts to help Pakistan overcome the hardship caused by the devastating earthquake that hit the country.

The assistance consists of US$ 50 million as soft loans, US$ 100 million for infrastructure projects, US$ 100 million for imported goods and foodstuffs and US$ 1.6 million as grant from the IDB Waqf Fund for the immediate purchase of relief materials such as tents and medicine.

In this regard, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Ekmelleddin Ihsanoglu together with Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali will leave for Pakistan today to visit the quake-affected areas.
