20 ANNUAL 22 REPORT PARTNERSHIPS TO FEND OFF CRISES CORPORATE PROFILE OF IsDB THE ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENT BANK ESTABLISHMENT MEMBERSHIP The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is a Multilateral Development Bank established pursuant to Articles of Agreement signed in the city of Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 21 Rajab 1394H, corresponding to 12 August 1974. The Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Governors took place in Rajab 1395H (July 1975), and the IsDB formally began operations on 15 Shawwal 1395H (20 October 1975).
Its operations and activities cover vast regions of the world, from Indonesia in the east to Suriname in the west, and from Uzbekistan in the north to Mozambique in the south.
The funds will go towards projects in 17 countries which are both members of the IAEA and the IsDB: Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’ Ivoire, Djibouti, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The approvals included several major projects such as: US$ 226.8 million for Development of Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport as well as US$ 198 million for the Assiut Oil Refinery Upgrade in Egypt; US$ 179.3 million for the Construction of Olama-Bingambo Section of the Olama-Kribi Road – Cameroon; US$ 176 million to Wadi Dayqah Water Supply Project – Oman, and US$ 100 million for the Construction of Modern Rural Housing Project (Phase-1) – Uzbekistan.
. - US$ 52.65 million Istisna’a Financing for the Reconstruction of Irrigation and Drainage Network in Djizzakh and Syrdaria Regions, Republic of Uzbekistan.. - US$ 37.3 million Istisna’a Financing for the Arboutachatak-Bitkine Road Project, Chad - US$ 16.17 million Istisna’a Sale for the Dangoumana Hydro-Agricultural Development Project, Burkina Faso.
The first event on Islamic financial sector development was attended by representatives and experts from the public and private sectors including bankers, central bankers, officials and experts of the ministries of economy from Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (as well as Bosnia, Kosovo and Tatarstan).
