IDB Board of Executive Directors Review Programs and Projects Prior to Annual Meeting

The Board of Executive Directors (BED) of the Islamic Development Bank met today in Khartoum, Sudan, in conjunction with the 37th Annual Meeting of the IDB. Addressing the Board Members, Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, President, IDB Group, expressed thanks and appreciation to the Republic of Sudan, its President, Government and people, for hosting the 37th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the IDB and noted the close cooperation between the Republic of Sudan and the IDB Group. He also expressed appreciation for the excellent arrangements made by the Sudanese authorities for the successful conduct of the Annual Meeting.

On the agenda of the BED meeting is a number of important topics, including the follow-up of the implementation of the partnership strategy with the member countries. The member country partnership strategy (MCPS) is an important mechanism that formulates IDB’s partnership strategies with the respective country for the coming years. The BED will consider an interim report on the Jeddah Declaration issued in June 2008 at the conclusion of the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors, which allocated a financial package of US$ 1.5 billion to help the least developed member countries adversely affected by the global food crisis. Other reports to be considered by the Board include operations and requirements of financial resources, the IDB Program to Support Youth in Arab Countries, to which it allocated US$ 250 million, etc.

The BED is expected to review arrangements for convening the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors. It will also discuss a number of administrative and technical issues, in addition to approval of new financing for development projects in member countries as well as assistance to a number of Muslim communities in non-member countries. The BED will remain in session until the conclusion of the Annual Meeting.
