IsDB and Comoros Strengthen Collaboration in Health, Trade, and Private Sector Development

Marrakech, Morocco, 10 October 2023 – Islamic Development Bank President and Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, says the premier Multilateral Development Bank of the Global South will continue engaging with the Comoros in strategic development areas such as capacity development, socio-economic infrastructure, and advisory support for strengthening the Islamic financial services industry and the development of health sector.

Dr. Al Jasser made the remark in a meeting with H.E. MZE Abdou Mohamed Chanfiou, Minister of Finance, Budget, and Banking Sector and IsDB Governor for the Comoros.  The meeting took place on 10 October 2023, on the sidelines of the 2023 World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings now underway in Marrakech, Morocco.

The two sides exahnged views on the progress of IsDB-funded projects in the Comoros.  They underlined the need for more engagement with other entities of the IsDB Group in the country namely, the Intenrational Islamic Trade Finance Cooperation (ITFC), the Islamic Institute for the development of the Private Sector (ICD), the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), as well as the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) which is mainly mandated to spearhead poverty alleviation particularly in the least developed member countries (LDMCs) of the IsDB Group.

The IsDB Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, also thanked Mr. Mze over the current level of cooperation with the Comoros and extended his appreciation to the country.

To date, IsDB Group has approved US$ 659.8 million of development financing for Comoros.
