IsDB and EBRD Deepen Cooperation on Co-financing and Private Sector Development
Bangkok, Thailand, 13 October 2026 – The Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Mrs. Odile Renaud-Basso, met on the sidelines of the 2026 World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok to explore opportunities to deepen cooperation between the two institutions.
Building on the outcomes of their previous engagement and a strong track record of collaboration, including co-financing public-private partnership projects, the two leaders discussed ways to build on this experience to create a stronger pipeline of joint operations and a more structured institutional partnership.

Dr. Al Jasser and Mrs. Renaud-Basso reviewed opportunities to expand collaboration in private-sector development, trade finance, guarantees, local currency financing, Sukuk, and domestic capital markets. They also considered how to leverage the complementary capabilities of the wider IsDB Group, including the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), and the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD).
The two sides explored potential cooperation across Central Asia, Türkiye, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Iraq. Areas of mutual interest include energy, infrastructure, trade, agribusiness, digital infrastructure, and financial-sector development.

The discussions also covered emerging areas of cooperation, including de-risking instruments, risk-sharing mechanisms, water, critical minerals, and digital infrastructure, as well as opportunities to strengthen coordination among multilateral development banks.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to developing a more focused pipeline of joint development projects and strengthening cooperation at both institutional and technical levels.
