IsDB and Mauritania Forge Collaborative Efforts in Agriculture, Water, and Human Capital Projects

Nouakchott, Mauritania, 22 October 2023 – The Hon. President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H.E. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, has granted audience to Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, at the presidential palace in Nouakchott.

During the meeting which came at the end of Dr. Al Jasser’s official visit to Mauritania, the IsDB Group Chairman briefed the Head of State on the details of his meetings with the Ministers and high-ranking officials of the country while underlining IsDB’s readiness to stand with Mauritania during the economic transition period.

The Hon. President Ghazouani, for his part, expressed his appreciation on the visit. He commended  IsDB’s efforts in Mauritania while recognizing the outcomes of the ongoing partnership between the two sides and its impact on the country’s economy.

The Mauritanian President, furthermore, stated that his country is aspiring to cooperate with the Islamic Development Bank in such areas as infrastructure. Human capital development, agriculture, water desalination, and power generation, as well as contributing to support for the National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM).

On the second day of his official visit to Mauritania and prior to his meeting with Hon. President Ghazouani, the Islamic Development Bank Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser took a tour of several IsDB-financed projects and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to continue supporting Mauritania in its priority areas. The projects visited by Dr. Al Jasser included a multi-million-dollar cardiology center financed at 90 percent by IsDB; the faculty of sciences; a 180-megawatt electricity production; and a water facility supplying the capital Nouakchott with drinkable water.
