IsDB President at IMF-Hosted Seminar: “True Recovery from Fragility and Conflict Begins with People”

Washington D.C., USA, 15 October 2025 – Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) President, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, has joined Ms. Odile Renaud Basso, President of the European Bank for reconstruction and Development (EBERD) as well as Prof. Joel S. Hellman, Dean of the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at George Town University, in a proactive Seminar hosted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., USA.

The event, dubbed: “Emerging from Conflict: Recovery, Stabilization, and Financing”, discussed how policymakers can enhance the chances of sustaining peace and recovering back to pre-conflict economic trends.

In his intervention, the IsDB President underlined that true recovery from fragility and conflict begins with people, restoring social cohesion, rebuilding trust, and meeting basic human needs such as food, health, and education.

He also reiterated that lasting peace requires global solidarity and sustained investment in resilience adding: “Lasting peace is only possible when people’s fundamental needs are met.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser outlined several key pillars for successful recovery, including restoring social peace and trust; delivering timely humanitarian assistance, re-establishing social justice; rebuilding essential institutions; and designing and including financing mechanisms.

One-third of IsDB member countries are fragile or conflict-affected and the Bank has always been at the forefront of supporting countries from the earliest stages of post-conflict recovery, helping with rebuilding lives, institutions, and hope.
