Sourcing Innovative Technologies for Development
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) invites qualified technology providers to propose market-ready, high-impact technology solutions under its Technology Deployment Cooperation Program (TDCP). Through this technology sourcing exercise, IsDB seeks innovative and transformative technologies that can help address development challenges across its member countries by improving livelihoods, enhancing basic services, strengthening resilience, and accelerating socio-economic progress.
Eligible solutions should be practical, scalable, and proven in operation, with strong commercial traction and clear potential for adaptation to local needs. Submissions will be assessed based on the uniqueness of the innovation, environmental and social inclusiveness, flexibility for adoption, technical feasibility, competitiveness, cost structure, scalability, and risk. The technology is expected to have a strong track record, demonstrating its value proposition through the deployment to at least 3 clients with a total sales value of at least US$20 million.
Technology companies, startups, research centers, universities, and institutions with commercialization-ready intellectual property are encouraged to participate. This is an opportunity to showcase solutions with the potential to support impactful deployment and future partnership under the TDCP.
Interested providers are invited to review the technology briefs and submit information on their solutions. All submissions will be treated confidentially. Once these submissions are received, IsDB will prepare a shortlist of candidates for further due diligence before possibly introducing the technology as solutions to its member countries. It is important to note that the market sounding process is exploratory and non-binding. Participation does not constitute a guarantee of selection, financing, or any procurement commitment.
IsDB is currently sourcing technology in the areas of a) Soil Stabilization Technology; and b) Innovative Solar Energy Solutions.
A high proportion of rural populations in IsDB’s LDMCs lack reliable all‑season road access, with unaffordable, costly traditional construction methods, which are often difficult to scale up due to high material needs, maintenance demands, and limited climate resilience.
Scaling up rural road networks requires adopting innovative, affordable, and environmentally friendly technologies, such as soil stabilization, to reduce costs, limit energy use, strengthen local capacity, and improve rural connectivity. With the situation of increased erosion of earth and gravel roads in member countries, which depend on high level of imported materials, there is need for scalable, cost‑effective and proven engineering solutions with strong quality‑control capacities.
Innovative soil stabilization technologies offer cost‑effective, environmentally friendly option for road construction, with lower construction and maintenance costs, extended road lifespan, and can be easily adapted to diverse member‑country contexts. Electricity access in many IsDB member countries remains limited or unreliable, especially in rural areas, where high grid‑extension costs and expensive high‑quality solar systems are a constraint for energy access and economic productivity. The expansion of rural electrification requires innovative, affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions that increase cost‑efficient access, reduce fossil fuel dependence and emissions, and empower local economies through productive energy use. Solar energy is increasingly viable across member countries, but successful rural deployment depends on sustainable business models that balance affordability and accessibility through solar home systems, rooftop installations, or hybrid setup. Innovative solar solutions must be cost‑effective, environmentally friendly, turnkey, mature, and market‑ready, while offering long‑term affordability compared with other sources, supported by full installation, operations, and capacity development.
