Hammad Zafar Hundal 

Head, IsDB Group Regional Hub, Abuja, Nigeria

Mr. Hammad Hundal is the Head of IsDB Group Regional Hub, Almaty Kazakhstan since 1 July 2026 . Mr. Hundal leads the Regional Hub in delivery of IsDB Group’s mandate in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan dn Uzbekistan managing IsDB Group’s portfolio, country strategy, managing relationships within the IsDB Group, with the country and development partners.

Before jong Almaty Regioanl Hub, Mr. Hundal was the Head of IsDB Group Regional Hub, Abuja Nigeria from December 2024 to June 2026. Mr. Hundal led the Regional Hub in delivery of IsDB Group’s mandate in Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Gabon, Niger and Sierra Leone.

Mr. Hundal was responsible for supporting IsDB Group’s strategic engagement with its Member Countries as Manager, Country Strategy and Engagement Division from November 2022 to February 2025. Working under the Country Programs Directorate and in coordination with IsDB Group Regional Hubs, he oversaw the rollout of IsDB Group’s Member Country Partnership Strategy and mainstreaming of Country Engagement Framework to strengthen the Bank Group’s country engagement and positioning. 

Earlier Mr. Hundal served as Officer-in-Charge of IsDB Group Regional Hub, Türkiye from July 2020 to June 2023. Mr. Hundal led the Regional Hub in delivery of IsDB Group’s mandate in Albania, Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, managing IsDB Group’s portfolio, developing and implementing country strategy and Integrated Work Program, managing relationships within the IsDB Group, with the country and development partners. Mr. Hundal was the Operations Portfolio Manager and Country Manager for IsDB Member Countries in Türkiye Hub from March 2015 to June 2020. Previously, Mr. Hundal served as the Country Manager for Indonesia, Malaysia and the Maldives over 2009-2015.

Prior to joining the Islamic Development Bank, Mr. Hundal worked with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank contributing to high level development initiatives and assignments over 2001-2006. Mr. Hundal started his career at Shell in 1997.

Mr. Hundal is an economist by training possessing an MPhil in Development Economics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom (1996).
