Resilient & Inclusive Urban Development Center at Talks between IsDB Group Regional Hub Türkiye and İLBANK
Ankara, Türkiye, 29 July 2025 – Islamic Development Bank Group Regional Hub Türkiye Director, Dr. Walid Abdelwahab, met with Mr. Recep Türk, Director General of İLBANK, during an official visit to ILBANK’s headquarters in Ankara.
The visit followed the recent signing of a landmark EUR200 million financing agreement between the Islamic Development Bank and İLBANK, aimed at supporting sustainable and climate-resilient municipal infrastructure and urban transport investments across Türkiye. The document, signed on 2nd July 2025, includes EUR150 million dedicated to rebuilding infrastructure in provinces affected by the February 2023 earthquakes, and EUR50 million for enhancing urban mobility systems in other cities.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in support of Türkiye’s local development agenda.
Dr. Abdelwahab commended İLBANK’s leadership in mobilizing resources for resilient and inclusive urban development and reiterated the Bank’s readiness to provide continued support through impactful and targeted interventions. He then expressed IsDB’s readiness to explore new venues of cooperation, including through the Bank’s reverse linkage program, which is a highly efficient platform for sharing knowledge and technical know-how.
Discussions also focused on the implementation roadmap of the newly signed financing packages, with an emphasis on accelerating project execution to deliver tangible benefits to municipalities and citizens.
Mr. Türk expressed appreciation for the IsDB Group’s longstanding partnership and emphasized İLBANK’s determination to strengthen this collaboration in line with ILBANK’s new strategy. He underlined the readiness of the institution to collaborate with financial institutions mandated with development at the level of local administration in other countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The meeting underscored the shared ambition to enhance the quality, safety, and sustainability of municipal services, while contributing to Türkiye’s broader goals of urban resilience and environmental stewardship, as well as sharing the experience and lessons learned of ILBANK with other Member countries.
