IsDB Scholarship Alumni of Uganda Virtual Meeting

On Thursday 4th August 2022, the Regional Hub of Kampala had the pleasure of virtually meeting the IsDB Scholarship Alumni of Uganda-the first of such meeting in Uganda. The Alumni extended their sincere thanks and appreciation to the IsDB for the scholarship provided them and always pledged their dedication and support to IsDB. It was encouraging to note that the IsDB Alumni in Uganda are flourishing and implementing their scientific and technological excellence in their respective fields of expertise and making significant contributions to Uganda in diverse fields. One of the key objectives of the meeting was to bring the Alumni together for them to get to know one another and for them to know what IsDB is doing in the country to enable them to play the role of IsDB Ambassadors. The meeting also discussed the launch of the “IsDB Alumni Uganda Chapter” and its registration process in Uganda. The aim of the IsDB Alumni Uganda Chapter is to maintain the link amongst the Alumni and with IsDB. Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, the current Vice Chancellor of Kampala International University, an IsDB alumni (1999 cohort) has volunteered to take on the role of coordinating and mobilizing the alumni.

The Regional Hub Manager Dr. Issahaq Umar Iddrisu, briefly updated the alumni on the finished and ongoing projects in the Regional Hub of Kampala-Uganda, and the great support IsDB continues to extend to the government and people of Uganda, the immense support and hospitality offered by the government of Uganda, opportunities in IsDB for the alumni and the expected role of alumni.  One of the immediate publications that will feature very soon is the profiling of all the IsDB Alumni in Uganda, for purposes of exploration of their potential roles in their various areas of expertise in addressing societal needs and development of various projects that may be supported by the IsDB group.

The meeting was attended by the Br. Lakdhar Kadkadi, Manager Scholarship Division and Dr. Nazar El-Hilali also from the Scholarship Division who took turns to address the Alumni. Below is a screenshot of some of the attendees of the meeting. The Alumni have embarked on document preparations for registration of the Chapter.
