IEvD Contributes to Global Dialogue on AI in Evaluation
3 June 2026 - As part of the gLOCAL Evaluation Week 2026, the Independent Evaluation Department IEvD actively contributed to two international webinars focused on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in evaluation. Representing IEvD, Mr. Ahmed Abdelgawad and Mr. Oguz Ceylan joined distinguished panels of evaluation professionals, policymakers, and development practitioners to share insights on the opportunities, challenges, and governance implications of AI-enabled evaluation.
Mr. Ahmed Abdelgawad participated in the webinar, “From Pilot Projects to Institutional Systems: Toward Strategic Readiness for Artificial Intelligence in Evaluation within Developing and Conflict-Affected Contexts,” organized by the National School of Public Administration (ENAP Québec), Canada, held on June 2, 2026. The discussion examined how evaluation systems can move beyond isolated AI experiments toward institutional integration, emphasizing governance frameworks, accountability, ethical safeguards, and capacity development to ensure that AI strengthens trust and credibility in evaluation.
On June 3, 2026, Mr. Oguz Ceylan represented IEvD in the webinar, “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence Across the Evaluation Cycle: Insights from MDB Evaluations,” organized by the Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) of the African Development Bank Group. The panel explored practical applications of AI across evaluation processes, including evidence synthesis, benchmarking, and knowledge management, while highlighting the importance of quality assurance, human oversight, and risk mitigation.
Through participation in these global discussions, IEvD reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation in evaluation while upholding the principles of independence, transparency, and methodological rigor. The events provided valuable opportunities to exchange experiences with peer institutions and contribute to shaping the responsible use of AI in evaluation practice.
