Sudan Finance Minister Commends Partnership with IDB Group

25.02.2014, Jeddah, KSA – The Sudanese Minister of Finance and National Economy, HE Badr-Eddin Mahmoud who called on the IDB Group Chairman Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali at the IDB headquarters commended the continuing partnership between his country and the IDB and expressed desire to enhance it further.

The Minister, also the IDB Governor for Sudan, was accompanied by Sudan’s Central Bank Governor, HE Abdurrahman Hasan. He thanked the IDB for its uninterrupted support to Sudan stating that his country gives the highest priority to cooperation with the IDB, both in honoring its financial commitments and at the same time ensuring that the IDB-financed projects succeed in supporting socio-economic development in the country.

The Minister briefed the IDB Group Chairman on recent developments in Sudan including the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for improvement of economic performance and alleviating poverty, as well as reaching a mechanism with the Bank of International Settlement (BIS) to settle Sudan’s foreign debts. He also highlighted a recent agreement between Sudan and the government of South Sudan for economic cooperation, trade exchange and improving bilateral ties.

The IDB Group Chairman, on his part, expressed pleasure over the economic measures and the success stories that Sudan is witnessing. He also welcomed the Minister’s invitation to visit Sudan in the near future.

Dr. Ali expressed happiness over development of ties between Sudan and IDB aimed at ensuring implementation of the country’s socio- economic development plans.
