Meeting of the IsDB Digital Inclusion Technical Working Group in Jakarta

Jakarta, Indonesia, 20 October 2023 – The Economic & Social Infrastructure Department (ESID) jointly with Cooperation & Capacity Development Department (CCDD) and IsDB Regional Hub of Jakarta organized the 3rd meeting of the IsDB Digital Inclusion Technical Working Group (IDITWG) in Jakarta.

Jakarta, Indonesia, 20 October 2023 – The Economic & Social Infrastructure Department (ESID) jointly with Cooperation & Capacity Development Department (CCDD) and IsDB Regional Hub of Jakarta organized the 3rd meeting of the IsDB Digital Inclusion Technical Working Group (IDITWG) in Jakarta.

The IDITWG meeting of was opened by H.E. the Vice President Operations, Dr. Mansur Mukhtar who welcomed the participants from diverse background including Digital Development/ICT/Digital Transformation, technical experts from the Asian Development Bank, Global Infrastructure Hub (GI-Hub), Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), StrategEast, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Cykube, United Nations University (UNU) Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) and technical experts/regulators from 4 IsDB MCs to share optimal practices in advanced countries and gaps in developing countries.

The IDITWG meeting facilitated knowledge sharing and critical debates by showing outstanding case studies, best practices, and perspectives from a diverse set of presentations made by the participants of the working group. The participants shared ideas to effectively bridge the digital divide through inclusive digital transformation. In total, 50 participants (25 in-person and 25 virtual) attended the meeting, which was by far the best attendance so far of all the IDITWG meetings.

During the meeting, the IsDB team took the opportunity to emphasize on exploring opportunities for collaboration, particularly in mobilizing resources for its Digital Inclusion Strategic Partnership Program (DISPP) which is essential to build the capacity of IsDB MCs from policy framework to individual digital skills and digital infrastructure to effective digital transformation involving multiple development sectors in a sustainable manner.

The Economic Infrastructure Division also participated at the 24th edition of the Digital Transformation Summit in Indonesia during 18-19 Oct 2023. The summit had participation from top-tier businesses, institutions, and government organizations in Jakarta. The theme of the summit was “Unlocking DX Strategies to Meet the Digital Age” which aligned with Indonesia’s national objectives.

The summit attracted over 750 C-Level Executives, Directors, and Heads from diverse sectors of the Digital ecosystem. The summit had over 50 speakers and Mr. Shaharyar Jawaid, Senior ICT Specialist was one of the Keynote Speaker at the summit. The keynote mainly covered how IsDB intends to support Digital Inclusion and Transformation in its Member Countries through the Digital Inclusion Strategic Partnership Program (DISPP). The keynote was widely acknowledged by the local participants particularly from the government entities and attracted several of them for the IsDB Digital Inclusion Technical Working Group meeting on 20th Oct 2023.
